Preliminary Thesis

CAUTION: WORK IN PROGRESS! :)

Neglected by her mother, abused and raped by her father, discriminated by society because of her color, Pecola Breedlove is forced to believe that she will be accepted when she reaches the white standard of beauty, defined by white skin and blue eyes, and is eventually driven to insanity because of constant discrimination due to her dark skin color.

Although your thesis is good, I feel that it is too simple, and lacks significance, as in "for what purpose was this element included in the novel?"

The thesis is clear, but it would be much better if you relate it to a greater theme rather than making it specific to the one character. If you more clearly answer the "so what?" question, the thesis would be much clearer.

I think your thesis was pretty good, but you mention the discrimination against her skin color twice. Otherwise, I think you answered the "so what" question.
