COMPARING ( i don't like this)

1. Thoreau's essay uses alot of words that are difficult to understand...so if he was trying to educate the uneducated it would not have necessarily worked. He uses repetition in his essay and in a lot of cases it may have worked, however here it didn't. It didn't work because it showed his views and ideas. It made him look like someone trying to win over the crowd by saying that if they didn't change sides that they were stupid...

Now Martin Luther King's essay was excetional in the sence that it used understandable words and it brought out his ideas on the government and its laws. He shows that the law was unjust by showing what he did to be in jail. It shows his opinion on the civil rights movement.

2. Martin Luther Kings Essay is more effective than Thoreaus essay. Kings essay was understandable then and now. It showed what people were going through. King was king of the civil rights movement and to hear that coming from him really ment alot to alot of people. He was mother duck and if he fell that means that all of little ducklings would fall. Also his simple words made people understand better.

3. "Letters" by Dr.King definately is the more focused one since he takes the topic poses an opinion on it and then continues to support it. It also leaves a lasting impression on the reader about the civil rights movement.

4. I feel that only "Letters" by Dr. King is effective since it actully makes some sence to the reader. It shows to the reader his view point clearly and firmly and unlike Thoreau's who changes his idea in between.
